Afternoon Cake at Drips Bakery Cafe
A little while ago, I met Daniel from Daniel’s Food Diary for an afternoon cake as he was looking for friends to have cake with him as part of his birthday plan this year. I thought since I’ve not met him for a while, why not give him a birthday treat instead? Hence, I suggested that we visit 40 Hands Coffee but we settled for Drips Bakery Cafe as he wanted to try this new place in the vicinity of the quint old neighbourhood of Tiong Bahru.
According to Daniel, the previous time he visited 40 Hands Coffee, it was very disappointing as most of the items were sold out and the manners of the staffs were rude. Although it has been highly raved by a number of media, I’ve not been there so it’s up to you to decide for yourself.
Alright, coming back to Drips Bakery Cafe, they have quite a number of tarts and cakes on display in the chiller when we enter the cafe. They have cookies too but since it’s Daniel’s birthday cake treat, we settled for some tarts as it looks really good.
The Mixed Fruit Tart had generous bits of blueberries and kiwis on it! The round tart had a firm crust with a nice layer of cream cheese at the bottom.
Prima Taste Kitchen, Mouth-Watering Local Cuisine Under One Roof
Once, I hosted my overseas friends around Singapore and they told me that they would love to have a taste of local food but they only have a day here. I panicked immediately, thinking how to get them to try as many of our popular local dishes as possible within such a short notice. Furthermore, with Singapore’s humid tropical weather, I won’t want my overseas friends to suffer in the heat of the day too. After thinking, the most convenience place will be Prima Taste Kitchen at Centrepoint Shopping Mall after a day of shopping along Orchard Road.
If you are wondering, Prima Taste Kitchen has been around for about 11 years and I am familiar with this place having dine here a couple of times. From my understanding, the young head chef of this restaurant has been around for 8 years as his undying passion for local cuisine makes stay on in this humble restaurant as he showcase our local street food to “wow” tourists and locals alike. I was surprised by how he use the pre-packed Prima cooking products to whip up dishes one after another that are of hotel standards that are value-for-money.
BonJapan launches their retail store at Orchard Central!
Last year, BonJapan had a bloggers media session in October at SMU and I got a sneak peek of the number of products they import from Japan. Not long ago this year, BonJapan launched their retail space at Level 6 of Orchard Central shopping mall and have created a buzz in Singapore! With the support from JTB and the Japanese Association in Singapore, BonJapan aims to promote Japanese culture in Singapore to the younger crowd through food, toys and manga.
I was at BonJapan last week for a blogger’s event as the boss, Nelson, himself introduces us about what his store is about, his objectives, the past events which he have hosted and most importantly, the food that we are going to try. According to him, his store is very popular with people who are crazy over Japanese pop culture, cosplayers and international school students who studies near Orchard area.
Jane Thai, Affordable and Hearty Thai Food
Once, my Thai friends asked me where are some of the “must go” places when they visited Singapore and immediately, 2 places came into my mind. One of which its the well-known “Little Thailand” at Golden Mile Complex and another is Orchard Towers with sleazy Thai clubs. With Orchard Towers located just a stone’s throw away from the Royal Thai Embassy, it’s not surprising to find good Thai food here besides rowdy drunkards and social escorts.
I met my usual group of friends in town for dinner and I suggested why not we pay a visit to Orchard Towers since we are on a budget and craving for Thai food at the same time. For all of them, it was their first time here and did not expect Jane Thai to be next to a very loud and sleazy dance club! Since we came in a group of 5, only the table outside this small eatery was available. Imagine having dinner with loud dance music pumping away and the bouncer standing outside of the club looking at us occasionally.
